What actually is a star? No one really knows. It is this message that most star tattoos portray when they appear on the body. Stars as we know then are a source of mystery. They also represent a number of other things including:

- Light

Stars have been a key part of human existence and development. In the olden days, stars were used to guide people by night - hence allowing them to find their way home, even when there was no light to help.

Additionally, a star might represent a spark, perhaps one inside the body. A spark of encouragement, a sign to keep on going when times are tough, and a sign that even though much is not known about the world in which we live - we can still exist against all odds.

Stars can of course have religious meanings as well. The Star of David for example is an important symbol in the Jewish way of life, just as the Pentagram holds is own meanings in Celtic Lore.
